In Shang-ri La, Tibet and Nepal on many homes, on the side of the wall there are giant Buddha eyes painted. These eyes are known as the Eyes of Wisdom. They are painted on home for safety and protection. They eyes, like Buddha are all seeing and can see all directions and provide safety.
These giant painted eyes can be see all over the towns and countryside. Between the eyes where the nose would be is a curly shape that looks like a question mark. This is the Nepali character for number one. In Nepal and Tibet number one symbolizes unity and the one way to reach enlightenment. Above the nose and eyes is the third eye. This symbolizes the all seeing wisdom of the Buddha.
